Hello Kitty and designer Yuko Yamaguchi

Since 1974 welcomed Hello Kitty designer, Yuko Yamaguchi and Yuko Tsuji (wife of the recently passed Sanrio President, Kunihiko Tsuji) to their Gold Coast store and factory for the launch of a new Hello Kitty UGG range.

The collaboration celebrates both brands who turn 40 this year.

Production Manager, Todd Watts (and grandson of UGG founder, Arthur Springthorpe) toured their special guests through the factory taking them through each station of the production. The Hello Kitty/Sanrio crew seemed delighted to see the handmade craftsmanship of UGGs as they walked through the warehouse in their Hello Kitty designer handbags and blouses.

Yuko Yamaguchi, in pig tail buns, a strawberry printed dress, and studded boots happily took pictures on her jewel encased smartphone as the rest of the crew browsed through the store commenting “kawaii” (cute) as they checked out the finished product.

Managing Director Richard Friedrichs, unveiled the new line for Ms Yamaguchi and the famous dancing girl herself – Hello Kitty. Two pieces were launched – a high-cut denim boot with jean pocket detailing and pink Hello Kitty graphics, and a lower cut brown boot with woven trimming across the ankle and a red bow Kitty patch.

Mr Friedrichs also surprised the Japanese guests with customised ugg’s for themselves. Ms Yamguchi was clearly happy with her one-off, tartan, pink and grey boots – as she told journalists earlier (via her translator) she likes to wear only one-of-a-kind pieces. Ms Yumaguchi also mentioned that she loves the rock look, especially studs as well as military and animal print.

Ms Yumaguchi also advised that a new character will be launched in spring in collaboration with Sega and kids that they’ve drawn inspiration from.

The launch of a new winter boot during a hot summer day was a neat celebration, and the Hello Kitty cupcakes kept energy levels high as local children lined-up for a photo opp with their favourite famous dancing girl.
